⚔️ What's a guisarme?

A guisarme (or gisarme) is a medieval polearm used across Europe, especially between the 12th and 14th centuries. It was mainly an anti-cavalry weapon — built to unseat or control mounted knights.

  • A long pole weapon, like a spear or halberd
  • Usually with a hooked blade or spike at the end
  • The hook pulled riders off horses, snagged shields, or dragged enemies off balance
  • Some versions also had an axe- or sword-like cutting edge

Part spear, part hook, part battlefield tool — and the namesake of this little corner of the web.
